3 Easy Ways to Drive Less

Did you know that the Toyota Prius gets a mileage of 48-51 miles per gallon? Holy cow! That’s nothing though, compared to the efficiency standards of European cars which average 40mpg compared to their American counterparts at 20mpg. Check out your car’s fuel economy here. But the best way to cut down on those CO2 emissions that contribute to global warming is by driving less all together. It’s super easy and totally fun!

  1. You can bicycle or walk whenever the distance you are traveling is less than one mile - that's just a 15 minute walk or 5 minutes of bicycling. If you’ve got the time, then why not enjoy it? Find decent bikes for cheap on (Madison’s) Craigslist.

  2. You can find a bus that takes you to your workplace, your relatives, or any location along the route. Taking buses or trains will save you on parking fees, gas and traffic hassles. Stick to it, and you may even find it more convenient than driving every day.

  3. You can car-pool, van-pool or ride-share to a common location. This is an excellent way to reduce your solo vehicle miles and make friends. Learn about car-sharing in your area.
